Graduate to Multisig
Time Required: 10 minutes
π― When You Hit $10,000
Single-signature wallets are great for getting started.
But when your Bitcoin is worth serious money, it's time to upgrade your security.
Multisig = Multiple keys required to spend.
What Is Multisig?
Multisig (multi-signature) means multiple keys must approve a transaction before Bitcoin can be spent.
Simple Analogy
- Single-sig: 1 key = 1 door lock. Lose the key = lose your Bitcoin.
- 2-of-3 multisig: 3 keys exist, any 2 can unlock. Lose 1 key? Still secure.
- 3-of-5 multisig: 5 keys exist, any 3 can unlock. Maximum redundancy.
Why Multisig Matters
- Protection from loss: Lose 1 key? Still have backup keys.
- Protection from theft: Thief needs 2+ keys, not just 1.
- Protection from coercion: No single point of failure under duress.
- Inheritance planning: Family members can hold keys collaboratively.
